Sewage treatment generally includes the following three levels of treatment:
Primary treatment is physical treatment: it removes stone, sand and fat, grease, etc. from sewage by mechanical treatment, such as grille, sedimentation or air flotation.
The two stage is biological treatment: pollutants in sewage are degraded and converted to sludge under the action of microorganisms.
Three stage treatment is the advanced treatment of sewage: it includes the removal of nutrients and disinfection of sewage by chlorination, ultraviolet radiation or ozone technology. Depending on the target and the water quality, some sewage treatment processes do not include all of the above processes.
